Hinesburg Veterinary Associates' Dr. Julie Moenter Awarded The Vermont Veterinary Medical Association's 2011 Dave Walker Award
A hearty round of applause and yells of excitement were heard when Dr. Rick Baum announced, "Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome our 2011 Dave Walker Award Recipient, Dr. Julie Moenter!"
One of our very own has been given the most prestigious award a Vermont veterinarian can hope to earn, the Dave Walker Award. On June 23, 2011, Dr. Moenter was surprised with the award at the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association's summer meeting. The Vermont Veterinary Medical Association, or VVMA, is the parent organization for all Vermont veterinarians. All the vets at HVA are VVMA members.

On the sly...
Covert ops were employed to get Julie's practice partners and the entire team from Bristol Animal Hospital to downtown Burlington for the award without Julie's knowledge. We closed the hospital early but left a full slate of "imaginary" appointments on the computer system so Julie wouldn't suspect a thing. Julie started Bristol Animal Hospital in 1987 and has retained many long-term employees at the hospital. Our hope was that their presence would make the award that much more special for Julie.
A global influence...
Dr. Baum, the VVMA Past-President, described Julie as having "flown under the radar for years." He went on to say that she was known for "quietly stepping up to the plate, pitching in, aiding others, dedicating her time to both our profession here in Vermont, and, unbeknownst to many, to veterinarians and people around the world with rarely a word." Dr. Baum spoke of Julie's contributions to our national and state veterinary associations and also of her trips to South Africa and Thailand, where she positively impacted the lives of many by providing materials such as veterinary textbooks, dental products, pencils and paper to those that needed them the most.

"As simple as a colored pencil..."
In conclusion, Dr. Baum surmised that being a great veterinarian is more than just having outstanding clinical accomplishments. "Maybe it's discovering that a little thought and compassion in this world using something as simple as a colored pencil can go a long, long way to heal the void between cultures and around the world. Her staff knows that already. More than one of them made reference to her as Dr. Moenter, Mother to the World."
The whole HVA Family is so proud of Dr. Julie. Please help us congratulate her next time you're in our hospital!
